Reporting allows users and staff members to flag comments that may potentially breach the community guidelines of the website, prompting an additional review process.
How can I report a comment?
Users can flag a comment for review by clicking the context menu at the right of the comment and selecting the "Report" option.
This action triggers a pop-up window with a predefined list of reporting categories and an open text field for adding additional context. Please note that selecting a reporting reason is a mandatory step to report a comment.
For staff members, the “Report” option will be available on hover.
Can guest users report comments?
You can define this in the Admin Panel's Policy Settings. If you wish to allow guest users to report comments in addition to registered users, please select the last checkbox in the "Guest Commenting" section.
What happens when a comment is reported?
Within the Admin Panel's Policy Settings, you have the ability to define the expected course of action for reported comments. There are two available choices:
- Rejecting Reported Comments: When this option is activated, comments that accumulate X number of reports (as selected) will be automatically rejected and removed from the site.
- Moderating Reported Comments: When this option is activated, comments that gather X number of reports (as selected) will be moved to the pending queue. Please note that these comments will remain as “Publish & Moderate” (live on the site and visible to other users until further evaluation).
In addition, if a comment is reported by a staff member using their Admin/Moderator/Community moderator/Journalist credentials, it will be moved to the pending queue as “Require Approval” (removed from the site until further evaluation).
Within the Admin Panel’s moderation tab, you can find all reported comments that meet the specified criteria. Information includes the number of reports, the report categories and the username of the person who made the report. You can also filter by “Reported” and by “Staff Report”. You will then have the option to either approve or reject the comment.
